11-Day Best of Morocco Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Casablanca – Transfer to Rabat

Welcome to Morocco. Upon arrival at Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport, meet your private driver and begin your journey toward Rabat, Morocco’s capital.

Depending on your arrival time, your first afternoon can include a relaxed introduction to Rabat with views of the Atlantic coast and visits to some of the city’s main landmarks. You may explore the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of the Udayas before checking into your hotel.

The first evening is kept relatively relaxed so you can recover from your flight and prepare for the journey ahead.

Overnight: Rabat

Day 2: Rabat – Chefchaouen

After breakfast, continue north toward Chefchaouen, the distinctive blue-painted town set in the Rif Mountains.

After arriving and checking into your riad, spend the afternoon exploring Chefchaouen’s compact medina. Walk through its narrow blue streets, small squares, local markets, artisan shops, and traditional neighborhoods.

Visit Plaza Uta el-Hammam and the surrounding medina before enjoying the evening at your own pace. The slower schedule gives you time to experience Chefchaouen without rushing immediately to the next destination.

Overnight: Chefchaouen

Day 3: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

Leave Chefchaouen after breakfast and travel south through northern Morocco toward Volubilis.

Explore the archaeological site and discover remains of Roman-era streets, columns, houses, arches, and mosaics. Continue to Meknes, one of Morocco’s historic imperial cities, where you can stop for lunch and visit selected monuments and traditional neighborhoods.

Later in the afternoon, continue to Fes and check into your riad in or near the historic medina.

The evening is free to relax after the journey.

Day 4: Private Guided Trip of Fes

Spend a full day exploring Fes with a licensed local guide.

Begin in Fes el-Bali, the historic medina filled with narrow streets, traditional markets, artisan workshops, religious schools, fountains, and centuries-old architecture.

Your guided visit may include Bou Inania Madrasa, Nejjarine Square, traditional craft quarters, the tanneries, and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the old city.

Along the way, learn about Moroccan craftsmanship and see artisans working with leather, ceramics, wood, metal, textiles, and other traditional materials.

After the trip, return to your riad and enjoy the evening at leisure.

Overnight: Fes

Day 5: Fes – Ifrane – Middle Atlas – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

Today you leave northern Morocco and travel toward the Sahara.

Depart Fes after breakfast and cross the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane before continuing through cedar-forest landscapes near Azrou.

The journey continues through Midelt and increasingly arid scenery before reaching the Ziz Valley. Stop at panoramic viewpoints overlooking the extensive palm groves and valley landscapes.

Continue through Erfoud toward Merzouga, located beside the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Arrive in the late afternoon and settle into your accommodation near the dunes. Depending on your arrival time and season, enjoy your first Sahara sunset before dinner.

Day 6: Merzouga Desert Experience – Camel Ride – Sahara Camp

Today is dedicated to exploring the Sahara rather than immediately continuing to another destination.

After breakfast, take a private 4×4 excursion around the Erg Chebbi region. Depending on the final itinerary, stops may include desert viewpoints, small settlements, fossil areas, seasonal nomadic communities, and Khamlia, known for its local musical traditions.

Return to your accommodation or enjoy lunch in the area before preparing for the afternoon desert experience.

Later, travel into the dunes by camel or 4×4 and watch the changing colors of Erg Chebbi as the sun sets.

Arrive at your desert camp, where dinner is served before an evening beneath the Sahara sky.

Overnight: Sahara Desert camp near Merzouga

Day 7: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Wake early for an optional sunrise over the dunes before breakfast.

Leave the Merzouga region and travel toward Rissani, a historic trading town and an important regional market center.

Continue west through the changing landscapes of southeastern Morocco toward Tinghir and Todra Gorge. Take time for a walk between the dramatic rock walls and along the valley before continuing toward the Dades region.

The road passes palm groves, traditional villages, cultivated fields, and distinctive rock formations.

Arrive at your hotel or guesthouse in the Dades Valley in the late afternoon.

Overnight: Dades Valley

Day 8: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech

After breakfast, leave the Dades Valley and travel toward Ouarzazate along a route known for its kasbahs, valleys, and southern Moroccan landscapes.

Continue to Ait Ben Haddou, where you can explore the historic fortified village and walk through its narrow passageways and earthen buildings.

After lunch, begin the journey across the High Atlas Mountains toward Marrakech. The mountain road offers changing landscapes and opportunities for scenic stops along the way.

Arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon or evening and check into your riad.

Day 9: Private Guided Trip of Marrakech

Spend the day discovering Marrakech with a licensed local guide.

Explore the historic medina and visit selected landmarks such as Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia area, traditional souks, artisan quarters, historic neighborhoods, and Jemaa el-Fna.

Your guide can adapt the visit according to your interests, with additional attention to Moroccan architecture, history, crafts, food, or local culture.

After the guided trip, enjoy the evening independently. You may return to Jemaa el-Fna, dine at a traditional restaurant, or relax at your riad.

Overnight: Marrakech

Day 10: Marrakech at Leisure

Enjoy a full day in Marrakech without a long road transfer.

This day gives you flexibility to revisit the medina, explore additional gardens or museums, shop in the souks, enjoy a traditional hammam, take a Moroccan cooking class, or simply relax at your accommodation.

Optional experiences can also include a food trip, hot-air balloon excursion, private shopping guide, spa treatment, or another activity selected according to your interests.

Keeping this day flexible provides an important break after the longer driving stages through the desert and southern Morocco.

Day 11: Marrakech – Casablanca Airport Departure

After breakfast, your private driver will collect you from your hotel or riad for the journey to Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport.

The departure time should be planned according to your confirmed flight schedule, allowing sufficient time for the road journey and airport check-in.

If your international flight departs early in the morning, the itinerary can instead be adjusted so that you travel from Marrakech to Casablanca on Day 10 and spend the final night near Casablanca.

Your 11-day Best of Morocco Trip ends after a journey through Rabat, Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Meknes, Fes, the Middle Atlas, the Sahara Desert, Todra Gorge, the Dades Valley, Ait Ben Haddou, the High Atlas Mountains, and Marrakech.
