Morocco Hiking Trip
10-Day Morocco Hiking Trip in the High Atlas Mountains
Discover Marrakech and the High Atlas Mountains on a private 10-day journey combining guided hiking, mountain villages, dramatic valleys, cultural visits, and time to experience southern Morocco at a comfortable pace.
The itinerary includes several guided walking days rather than a single short excursion. Routes can be adapted according to your hiking experience, fitness level, preferred daily duration, travel season, and accommodation requirements. Easier village walks and lower-altitude alternatives can also be arranged when a summit or demanding mountain route is unsuitable.
Private transportation, licensed mountain guiding, accommodation, meals, luggage arrangements, and hiking support will be explained clearly in your final proposal before booking.

10-Day Morocco Hiking Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech
Welcome to Morocco. Upon arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport, meet your private driver and transfer to your riad or hotel.
The first day is intentionally relaxed before the hiking portion of the journey. Depending on your arrival time, take a short walk through the medina, explore Jemaa el-Fna, or simply rest at your accommodation.
In the evening, meet your trip representative or mountain guide to review the upcoming trekking days, weather conditions, required equipment, and preferred walking level.
Overnight: Marrakech
Day 2: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Imlil Acclimatization Hike
After breakfast, leave Marrakech and travel toward the High Atlas Mountains.
Arrive in the Imlil region and meet your local mountain guide. After checking into your mountain lodge or guesthouse, begin a moderate introductory walk through the surrounding valleys and traditional Amazigh villages.
The route can be adapted to your fitness level and may include terraced fields, walnut groves, village paths, waterfalls, and panoramic viewpoints over the surrounding mountains.
This first walk is designed as an acclimatization day rather than a demanding trek.
Suggested walking time: Approximately 3–4 hours, depending on the selected route.
Overnight: Imlil
Day 3: Imlil – Tizi Mzik – Azzaden Valley Trek
After breakfast, begin one of the main hiking days of the itinerary with your mountain guide.
Leave the Imlil Valley and climb gradually toward the mountain pass overlooking the surrounding High Atlas landscapes. The trail provides changing views of terraced valleys, traditional villages, high mountain ridges, and agricultural land.
Continue toward the Azzaden Valley, stopping along the way for lunch and rest.
Descend into the valley and continue toward your mountain guesthouse or village accommodation.
This is a more demanding walking day and should be adjusted according to weather, trail conditions, and the group’s fitness.
Suggested walking time: Approximately 5–6 hours.
Difficulty: Moderate to challenging.
Overnight: Azzaden Valley
Day 4: Azzaden Valley – Mountain Villages – Imlil
After breakfast, continue trekking through the Azzaden Valley with your local mountain guide.
The day follows village paths and mountain trails through traditional settlements, cultivated terraces, orchards, and changing landscapes.
Stop for tea or lunch along the route before gradually returning toward the Imlil region.
This day can be shortened or extended according to your preferred activity level. Travelers who want a more relaxed experience can choose an easier village route, while experienced hikers can follow a longer mountain circuit.
Arrive in Imlil in the afternoon and enjoy time to rest.
Suggested walking time: Approximately 4–5 hours.
Difficulty: Moderate.
Overnight: Imlil
Day 5: Imlil – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, leave Imlil and begin the road journey through the High Atlas toward southern Morocco.
Today is primarily a transfer and recovery day after several days of hiking.
Travel through changing mountain landscapes before reaching Ait Ben Haddou. Explore the historic fortified village on foot, climbing through its narrow passages and traditional earthen buildings.
After the visit, continue toward Ouarzazate and check into your hotel.
The evening is free to rest before the next hiking day.
Overnight: Ouarzazate
Day 6: Ouarzazate – Valley of Roses – Dades Valley Hike
After breakfast, leave Ouarzazate and travel toward the landscapes of the Valley of Roses and Dades region.
Meet your local guide for a guided walk through selected parts of the valley. Depending on the season and route, the hike may pass cultivated fields, traditional villages, rock formations, small canyons, and agricultural terraces.
The walk should be selected according to weather conditions and your fitness level rather than following one fixed route year-round.
After completing the hike, continue to your accommodation in the Dades Valley.
Suggested walking time: Approximately 3–4 hours.
Difficulty: Easy to moderate.
Overnight: Dades Valley
Day 7: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge Hike – Merzouga
After breakfast, leave the Dades Valley and continue toward Tinghir and Todra Gorge.
Meet your local guide for a walk through the gorge and surrounding landscapes. Depending on your preferred level, choose between a shorter valley walk or a longer trail through the rocky terrain surrounding the gorge.
After the hike, enjoy lunch before continuing east toward Erfoud, Rissani, and Merzouga.
Arrive near the Erg Chebbi dunes in the late afternoon and settle into your accommodation.
Suggested walking time: Approximately 2–3 hours.
Difficulty: Easy to moderate.
Overnight: Merzouga
Day 8: Merzouga Desert Walk – Erg Chebbi – Sahara Camp
Today replaces mountain trekking with a different style of walking in the Sahara.
Begin with a guided exploration of the Merzouga region. Depending on conditions, take a desert walk through selected areas around Erg Chebbi and learn about the environment, settlements, and changing landscapes surrounding the dunes.
The day may also include a private 4×4 excursion around the region, with stops in small settlements or Khamlia.
Later in the afternoon, travel toward your Sahara camp by camel or private 4×4.
Stop among the dunes for sunset before continuing to camp for dinner and an evening beneath the desert sky.
Overnight: Sahara Desert camp near Merzouga
Day 9: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Middle Atlas – Fes
Wake early for an optional sunrise before breakfast.
Leave Merzouga and begin the long journey north toward Fes.
Travel through Erfoud and the Ziz Valley, stopping at selected panoramic viewpoints before continuing through the landscapes around Midelt and the Middle Atlas Mountains.
Regular rest, lunch, and photography stops should be included because this is the longest road-transfer day of the itinerary.
Arrive in Fes in the evening and check into your riad.
Overnight: Fes
Day 10: Fes – Departure
Enjoy breakfast at your riad and free time according to your flight schedule.
If you have a later departure, a short guided introduction to Fes can be arranged, focusing on selected areas of the historic medina and traditional artisan quarters.
Your private driver will then transfer you to Fes-Saïss Airport.
For early departures, transfer directly from your accommodation to the airport.
Your 10-Day Morocco Hiking Trip concludes after combining High Atlas trekking, Amazigh mountain villages, the Dades Valley, Todra Gorge, the Sahara Desert, and some of Morocco’s most varied landscapes.
